Jeremy Doku scored one and assisted four as Manchester City trounced Bournemouth 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium this evening to go top of the Premier League table.
It didn’t look like it was going to rain goals in Manchester until the 30th minute when Doku sent a fine finish into the bottom corner after a one-two with Rodri. Three minutes later, the Belgian turned provider to Bernardo Silva who benefited from a trickery pass before Doku’s long-range effort deflected into the post off Manuel Akanji’s back for City’s third, and the defender’s first EPL goal.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland could only play for 45 minutes as he limped off the pitch and was substituted for Phil Foden at the start of the second half.
Unfortunately for the visitors, Dominic Solanke’s goal at the start of the second half was ruled offside due to the position of Ryan Christie in the build-up and his further attempt on goal minutes later hit woodwork.
However, in the 64th minute, Doku completed a hat-trick of assists after setting up substitute Foden for City’s fourth goal, before Luis Sinisterra pulled one back for the away side in the 74th minute.
Silva scored his second of the game after a counterattack led to Doku setting the Portuguese up for a looping effort. Relentlessly, Manchester City got their sixth and final goal in the 88th minute when youngster Oscar Bobb crossed the ball for Nathan Ake to head the home team to the EPL summit on 27 points pending the time Tottenham Hotspur will play.
