Real Madrid has confirmed the signing of Joselu Mato on loan from relegated Espanyol for €500k fee.
The club confirmed the signing today and revealed that it’ll be a season-long loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
This will be Joselu’s second stint at Madrid, after the Spanish international joined Real Madrid’s youth academy at the age of 20 and played two seasons with the Castilla, making his first-team debut for the club in 2011.
After leaving Real Madrid, Joselu embarked on an international journey that took him to German side Hoffenheim and English clubs; Stoke City and Newcastle United.
The 33-year-old has also played in the colours of Alavés between 2019-22, and
Espanyol between 2022-23, before this move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Also at the international level, he scored a brace on his debut for Spain against Norway earlier this year and played a pivotal role in the country winning the Nations League — scoring the winning goal in the semi-final against Italy and converting his spot-kick in the final against Croatia during the penalty shoot-out yesterday.
Joselu will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player on Tuesday, 20 June at 11 am at Real Madrid City, where he’ll then speak to the media afterwards.
