Borussia Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has pegged a top-four finish as the club’s primary objective for the season, in light of their inconsistent performances in the league so far.
Despite their Champions League involvement, Dortmund are currently occupying the fourth place in the Bundesliga race, with 41 points—20 points adrift table toppers Bayer Leverkusen who are on 61 points with eleven games left to the conclusion of the season.
Reacting to this development, Watzke said, “It is a difficult situation because it is only 11 matches left (in the Bundesliga.
“We have the fourth position now but it has been a difficult situation.
“You have the feeling the championship is there but you don’t win it. That was a big problem for the team and the coach.
“For this season I was not optimistic of being competitive. We are not playing too good. We have two faces.
“In the Bundesliga this year it is not very good. There is no flow. We must work hard to win games and it is not automatic.
“It is difficult. Leverkusen are very strong. Stuttgart played to avoid relegation last season and now they are playing fantastic football. Leipzig are always strong. We must get our points, win our games,” he concluded.
Next up for Borrusia Dortmund will be their Bundesliga Matchday 24 fixture against Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on March 2.
