Edin Terzic Offers Transfer Update on Gio Reyna Before January Window Closes

Edin Terzic, Gio Reyna’s boss has played down rumours of him departing Borussia Dortmund this January. Reyna started the game off the bench for Dortmund 3-1 win against VFL Bochum, and the manager told DAZN he was happy with the midfielder’s performance for the USMNT. As a result, the Black and Yellow coach expects the 21-year-old to be available for Friday’s match against Heidenheim, which takes place two days after the transfer window closes.

Terzic said: “Gio is a fantastic player. Of course he’s not happy when he’s not playing, you could see that Gio is capable of influencing the game from the bench. He was very confident on the ball, managed to create a few dangerous situations, but was a bit unlucky with his finishing in one or two situations.”

The Dortmund boss then emphasized that he hopes that Reyna stays, and would available to him for the rest of the season. He added: “I expect him to be available to me on Friday. I haven’t heard anything else. Gio is under contract, Gio is our player and did well when he came on today.”

Reyna has been linked to a move away from Dortmund this year, and initially, they seemingly appear willing to trade him this january. Several teams have expressed interest in the American midfield player, ranging from Nottingham Forest and Marseille to Sevilla. But given Terzic’s recent remarks, it appears that the American may not be departing after all.

Reyna is expected to remain at Dortmund for the duration of the season if he does not make a move before the window closes. Though he seemingly feels like a lock-in for a roaster spot at Copa America, and without playing time, Gredd Berhalter could be forced into another difficult decision. Reyna can potentially head to Paris with the U.S. Olympic team as he still meets the age requirements being 21.
