Unai Emery recently celebrated his two-year anniversary as manager of Aston Villa, and he shared that his “next dream” is to win a trophy with the club.
Emery was appointed on October 24, 2022, when Villa was just above the relegation zone due to goal difference. Since then, the team has improved significantly, achieving Emery’s “first objective” of qualifying for European competitions.
At his pre-match press conference before facing Bournemouth, Emery expressed optimism about the future, saying, “Hopefully we will improve more and more.”
He reflected on the progress made since he and his coaches arrived, noting that while they quickly achieved certain goals, “there is still a lot of work to do.” Emery emphasized that maintaining these achievements is critical.
He added, “This is the target with the players, coaches, owners, and myself. My first objective was to play in Europe. My second dream was to win a trophy and that’s what I have now. We are looking forward to continue to improve.”
He acknowledged that playing more matches means more preparation, but he feels comfortable and confident. Following a strong 2-0 home win against Bologna in the Champions League, Emery is focused on keeping his players at a high level of intensity.
He noted that some players have shown fatigue or a lack of focus in games after Champions League matches. “We have to keep the objective and high standards we are setting, There are some doubts over the mentality I want.” he said, addressing players, club staff, and supporters.
