Ahead of the Manchester Derby FA Cup final today, Manchester United’s midfielder, Scott Mctominay sees the encounter as focusing on themselves and what they can achieve, rather than stopping others.

The Scottish international spoke at length with United’s media, where he reaffirmed that a potential domestic cup double was extra motivation for the club.

“The other side of it was the game against Fulham and the motivation to win there was to tie the most wins at home [in a season: 27], which is important for us and which is important for the manager and his staff,” McTominay said.

“It’s a great honour and responsibility to be a part of history at this football club and that’s what we all want as players.

“We want to be involved in that and I feel like that’s the best way to push forwards: to have little targets that you want to set and achieve.

“There’s always been that bond with the squad, no matter whether it’s the good times, the bad times.

“Now we’re doing well: we’ve won one cup final, we’re in another [and] top-four and the Champions League, which is amazing for us.

“I feel like that’s the way it is: the fans are behind us whatever the weather, but especially this season I feel like they’ve been there for every single game, from minute one until the last.

“They’re the best fans in the world, by a mile.”
