After spending the previous season on two separate loan spells at Union Berlin and Burnley, David Datro Fofana failed to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge.
The player was previously added to Chelsea’s bomb squad which meant he was kept away from their first-team activities. However, Fofana’s move to AEK Athens could fall through because Chelsea and the Greek club still disagree on several points.
The player from the Blues was on the verge of joining AEK Athens on loan, with a £20 million buyout option the following summer. Fabrizio Romano, however, claims that the transfer might fall through at the last minute since the English team and the Greek clubs cannot agree on a number of factors.
Greece’s window is set to close on Wednesday night, and West London is now in a race against time to finish the transfer. In the second part of the 2023–24 season, 21-year-old Fofana played for Burnley, tallying four goals in 15 Premier League games.
Before the Greek window closes, the English powerhouse will aim to come to an agreement and legally finalize the young Fofana loan transfer. The next time we see them in action is this Saturday night when they play Bournemouth.
