Lisandro Martinez scored a deflected goal, and Toby Collyer saved a header off the line, leading Manchester United to a 1-0 win at Fulham. This victory moved them up to 12th place in the Premier League.
The match was mostly uneventful, with United playing defensively and not taking a shot until the 42nd minute. Both teams combined for just 13 shots, the lowest for any Premier League game this season.
Martinez’s goal came in the 78th minute, looping in after hitting Sasa Lukic. It was United’s first shot on target. There was controversy surrounding Martinez, as he avoided punishment for a two-footed foul earlier in the game.
Collyer played a crucial role in the win, clearing a corner from Joachim Andersen just before full-time. In stoppage time, Rodrigo Muniz missed a great chance for Fulham. Amad Diallo also had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside.
Manager Ruben Amorim emphasized that the result was more important than the performance. Despite the win being their fourth from 12 attempts, the overall display left much to be desired. United’s fans grew frustrated as the team struggled with confidence after losing six of their last nine matches. For now, this win will boost their spirits.
As for Fulham, they will feel hard done by – but their first-half zeal through Alex Iwobi and Raul Jimenez had dried up by the time United broke the deadlock and, despite scoring twice in each of their last five league games, they could not force a late response. Marco Silva’s side stay 10th.
Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim says:
“It’s a good day for us. It was not a great performance and we can see it but we fight for the win, we gave some time to the team to understand the game, to have that bit of luck you need sometimes to win a football match. A clean sheet. Let’s take this feeling to the next game.”
