Gallagher and Alvarez scores first goals as Atletico defeats Valencia

Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez both scored their first Atletico Madrid goals as Diego Simone’s side defeated Valencia 3-0.

Diego Simone’s side enjoyed a perfect return to La Liga in a dominant home win over Valencia. Los Rojiblancos remained unbeaten in league games this season.

Atletico Madrid dominated the play from the start and were rewarded with a first half goal. New signing, Conor Gallagher eased to a dream home debut as he broke into the box to calmly slot home his first goal in Spanish football.

The second half began also with a spark as star man, Antoine Griezmann, doubled the lead in the 54th minute. Greizmann popped up at the right place as he received a pass from Samuel Lino to make it 2-0.

Another new signing, Alvarez, got on the score sheet to seal the victory. The former Manchester City striker stabbed home his first goal for the club after five games.

Simone was delighted at his new signings, especially for Alvarez and the way his teammates and crowds celebrated his goal.

“We needed him to score, so he would be calmer. Hopefully, it will be the first of many. Strikers live on goals and he appeared at the final moment of the match and made the most of it. From now on, he’ll keep growing”, he said.

Atletico Madrid have now picked up 11 points from five games, keeping four clean sheets, two at home and two away.

Next up for Atletico Madrid is the start of their UEFA Champions League campaign at home to RB Leipzig on September 19.
