After coming down from a goal down to defeat Italy 3-1 yesterday and secure their Euro 2024 spot with two games to spare, England’s Gareth Southgate believes there’s still more to come from his side.

The Three Lions courtesy of goals from goals from Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford overturned Gianluca Scamacca’s 15th-minute opener for Italy at a filled Wembley Stadium last night.

“We need to make sure we are one of the top seeds next month,” Southgate said post-match.

“We need to keep building. There is more to come from this team. This was the toughest qualifying group, with the seedings.

“People have criticised us for not beating the top teams enough. But we have performed really well.”

The 53-year-old added: “I feel like sometimes we make qualifying look easy, so credit to the boys because it’s not,” Kane told Channel 4.

“We’ve had one of the toughest groups, you’ve seen over recent years some big nations not going to major tournaments, so to do it [qualify] with two games to spare just shows the path we are on.”

England, who remain undefeated with two group matches remaining, have secured the top spot in Group C, having won five of their six qualifiers.
