In a significant shift for German football, the German Football Association (DFB) has announced that its national teams will don Nike jerseys effective from 2027, marking the end of over 70 years of partnership with Adidas.
The deal with Nike, extending until 2034, was chosen for its superior financial offer, according to DFB CEO Holger Blask.
The timing of the announcement, just ahead of the Euro 2024 championships hosted by Germany, falls within the typical schedule for such deals, Blask noted.
Despite the transition, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf emphasised the association’s commitment to maintaining a successful relationship with Adidas until the end of the current contract year.
For Adidas, the termination of the kit partnership with the German FA represents a significant setback. This decision comes amidst recent challenges for the sportswear giant, including its first reported loss in 30 years.
