The Black Stars of Ghana have failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco after a 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday night.
The four-time African champions will be missing out from the tournament for the first time since 2004.
Angola, who already qualified, started aggressively and nearly took the lead in the fourth minute, but their effort went wide.
However, Ghana responded as Jordan Ayew gave the Black Stars the lead with a spectacular free-kick in the 19th minute.
They pushed for a second goal, but were unable to time their finishing and Angola made them pay.
The home side first earned a penalty in the 25th minute but M’Bala Nzola was denied by Abdul Manaf. However, they levelled with Zini in the second half after ramping up the pressure.
Ghana tried to stage a much-needed comeback, but poor decision-making in the final third proved costly.
The match ended in a stalemate, leaving Ghana with just three points from five games in Group F. They also sit fourth in the standings with no win in five games.
With this result, the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON are officially over, even with a game to play.
