Mason Greenwood scored brace to help Olympique Marseille defeat Toulouse 3-1 and climb to the top of Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old forward has scored five goals in three games for Marseille. He scored twice on his Marseille debut against Brest and once against Reims last week, before netting another brace against Toulouse.

Marseille came back from a disappointing draw last week against Stade de Reims to triumph over Toulouse.

The host took advantage of Charlie Cresswell error to open the scoring. The defender’s miss-pass was picked up by Quentin merlin, who fed Luis Henrique to assist Greenwood.

Two minutes after, the defender gave another short pass. Elye Wahi picked up and flicked the ball onto Henrique to once again assist Greenwood for his second goal.

Toulouse woes compounded as Frank Magri was sent off in the 27th minute for a high boot on Godffrey Kondogbia.

Debutant Cresswell capped his horror night with an own goal as his hand deflected Henrique’s shot into the net.

Shavy Babicka beat Marseille’s Geronimo Rulli to pick up a loose ball and get a consolidation goal for Toulouse, making the scoreline 3-1.

Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi, was impressed by his boys’ performance, urging them to improve and always maintain momentum. “We had a good first half, scoring two goals”, he told DAZN after the match.

“It gave us an advantage to have an extra player and we relied on our strength in one-on-ones, particularly Greenwood, to score the brace. We still need to improve the speed and mentality of this team. We shouldn’t have conceded the goal, should have won 3-0”, he added.

De Zerbi’s side sits on top of the table with seven points, level with Nantes who won 3-1 away at Montpellier.
