Pep Guardiola faced Manchester City’s media today ahead of the club’s Community Shield clash against Arsenal on Sunday, where he discussed extensively the potential departure of Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva.

Ever since the commencement of the summer transfer window, there have been rumours linking Walker to Bayern Munich and Silva to Barcelona. However, Pep insists he wants both players to stay, particularly after losing Gundogan and Mahrez already in the window.

The 56-year-old said: “Kyle and Bernardo what can I say? They are so important for us.

“We are going to do everything. We want him to stay, we will do everything. To replace these players is so so difficult.

“We lost two incredible players for us, Gundogan and Riyad were massively important in the last two seasons, goals, assists and personality on the big occasions and important games.

“To lose Kyle and Bernardo would be so difficult. That’s why we are going to do everything to keep them because they want to be here.”

Whether both players will play for City come next season is still up in the air, but if reports are anything to go by, Barcelona will do all in their power to persuade Silva to Camp Nou. The transfer window doesn’t close until September 1, so fingers are still crossed.
