Arsenal’s Bruno Guimaraes, a Newcastle United midfielder, has emerged as Arsenal’s top target this summer. According to reports, the Brazilian midfielder has ‘taken a slight lead’ among Arsenal’s midfield targets, as the club prepares to raid Newcastle.
Mikel Arteta’s squad fail to win the Premier League title for the second year in a row. They finished second to Manchester City. Unlike their catastrophic collapse in the 2022/23 season finale, Arsenal came dangerously close to dethroning City this season. But they ended only two points behind them.
Losing the title on the final day would definitely be a difficult pill to swallow for Arteta and his teammates. However the Gunners have already rolled out plans for another title challenge next season. Arsenal are expected to bring in new faces in all departments, with a midfielder at the top of their wishlist.
Their ambitious goal to win the Premier League next season has seen them target Newcastle’s Guimaraes, who might leave St. James’ Park this summer. The Brazilian international’s contract reportedly includes a £100 million release clause. Arsenal is one of several clubs interested in signing him.
Manchester City, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move for the 26-year-old. However he might stay in the Premier League if PSG drops out of the competition. Arsenal and other possible bidders have been reminded that Guimaraes’ release clause must be activated by the end of June or he will stay at Newcastle for at least another season.
Guimaraes is a revolutionary addition to the Magpies after joining from Olympique Lyon in January 2022. He has been an important member of Eddie Howe’s side this season, appearing in 50 games across all competitions and contributing seven goals and 10 assists.
Arsenal will be looking to add quality to their squad this summer, and acquiring Guimaraes would be a clear statement of purpose ahead of another possible title bid next season.
