According to Ilkay Gundogan, Manchester City wants the Champions League “more than all the others” and that the team’s preparations for the final against Inter Milan on Saturday in Istanbul, where they will attempt to win the treble will be “simple.”
Gundogan’s goals in the FA Cup Final against Manchester United sealed a double for Manchester City and brought them one step closer to matching their rival’s success in 1999. This victory also marked the 11th major trophy won by Pep Guardiola since he joined City in the summer of 2016. During his tenure, the club has claimed five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and four League Cups.
However, Gundogan emphasized that the ultimate prize City desires is the prestigious European title, which Guardiola has not won since his time with Barcelona in 2011.
“Obviously we already have two titles but we know we want this one even more than all the other ones before and that is our target for next week,” the captain said. “What we have done in the last few months is amazing,” the German midfielder said.
He added: “We were chasing Arsenal for a long time in the Premier League so we were mainly focused on trying to win our next game every single time. We have been doing amazingly. The same goes for the FA Cup and Champions League.
“So there was not much time to think as we had games every three or four days and we just wanted to win the next one.”
Speaking ahead of the clash with Inter Milan, he said “We were chasing Arsenal for a long time in the Premier League so we were mainly focused on trying to win our next game every single time. We have been doing amazingly. The same goes for the FA Cup and Champions League.
“So there was not much time to think as we had games every three or four days and we just wanted to win the next one.”
