Thibaut Courtois thinks that Manchester City star Erling Haaland would fit well at Real Madrid. He believes the Manchester City striker’s playing style would help him score many goals for the Spanish club. Courtois commented on Haaland’s impressive goal-scoring record while playing for Borussia Dortmund, which sparked rumors of a move to Real Madrid.
Even after Haaland joined Manchester City in 2022, transfer rumors regarding a potential move to Madrid persisted. Recently, Kylian Mbappe emerged as another player often linked to Real Madrid. Both players are considered heirs to the legacies of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Haaland also signed a contract extension with Manchester City that lasts until 2034.
Courtois mentioned that if Haaland were to join Real Madrid, he could become a prolific goal scorer, much like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema did in the past. Recently, Courtois’ team, Real Madrid, eliminated Manchester City from the Champions League. Haaland missed the match because he was sidelined with an injury and had to watch from the bench.
“Did you expect that from Benzema? Because obviously, Cristiano was there before. And he was almost like, Cristiano was the superstar, and Benzema was like the next guy to him supporting,” Courtois was asked by Rio Ferdinand on a podcast.
“Yeah, because eventually, Cristiano scored a lot of goals. But when he left, someone else got those goals,” Courtois explained.
“If you’re in the right spot, I also think a striker like Haaland in our team would score a lot of goals, because we are very attacking.
“I think Haaland is also this kind of striker that lives from inside the box. And I think we have enough quality to reach there and if you’re inside the box, I think we have a lot of crosses in the game.”
This week, Real Madrid will face Girona, and Courtois is expected to start in goal. On the other hand, Haaland hopes to regain full fitness soon. He has an important Premier League match against Liverpool coming up this weekend. The excitement around both players continues to build, even amidst their current club commitments.
