Lionel Messi has opened up on his days at Paris Saint-Germain once again, describing the experience as an unhappy one.
Messi left Barcelona to PSG in 2021, playing in the French capital for two seasons. However, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner revisited his stints with the Ligue 1 giants, as he claimed to be far from content at PSG.
In an interview on Apple Music, the 2022 World Cup champion said: “I wasn’t happy on a daily basis, with the training, the matches, I had a hard time adapting to all of this.”
“The way things have evolved in my last years in Paris, even though it was a decision that I had to make immediately because I had to leave Barcelona, I lived there for two years and I didn’t like it. I wasn’t happy on a daily basis, in training, in games, I had a hard time adapting to all of this”.
Meanwhile, during his time with Les Parisiens, Messi won two Ligue 1 titles and a Trophée de Champions. He was however unable to win UEFA Champions League with PSG, falling in the round of 16 in his two seasons at the club.
The Argentine was also directly involved in 67 goals (scored 32, assisted 35) in 76 appearances across all competitions.
In his final season with them, he achieved a remarkable feat: getting to 1,000 direct goal involvements at club level.
However, the 2022 World Cup winner chose not to extend his stay with PSG, instead switching to MLS franchise Inter Miami in July 2023.
He went on to tag the switch to the United States as an opportunity. “Coming to play for Inter Miami was an opportunity”, Messi stated.
