Iga Swiatek ease past Jessica Pegula in 59 minutes with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory to clinch her first WTA Finals title on Monday in Cancun, Mexico.

The win for the 22-year-old pole ensured she surpasses Aryna Sabalenka to finish as the year-end World No.1 for the second season in a role since falling in the Round of 16 at the US Open, where she initially conceded her No.1 ranking, Swiatek has been on a tear.

She has won 12 out of 13 matches, including 11 in a row, and has titles in Beijing and now Cancun. Ultimately, Swiatek won her sixth and seventeenth titles of the season on the Hologic WTA Tour, which led the tour.

With only 20 games lost overall in Cancun, Swiatek achieved the most dominant run to the WTA Finals title (by a long shot) since the round-robin format was reinstated in 2003. Serena Williams, who lost 32 games in 2012, set the previous record.

Swiatek, who was playing Pegula for the fourth time this season, had a 5-3 head-to-head record overall, but the American had defeated her twice already this year. In Doha, Swiatek won her first championship of the year after losing to Pegula in just three games. By losing one, she would win her final championship of the year.

Swiatek won three major titles this past week, including the Australian Open champion Sabalenka, the US Open champion Coco Gauff, and the Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets. In Cancun, she lost exactly zero sets.

Swiatek is the youngest WTA Finals champion since Petra Kvitova won in Istanbul in 2011. She is the second Polish champion at the event after Agnieszka Radwanska won in Singapore in 2015.
