Ilkay Gundogan Joins Barcelona On A Free Transfer

Ilkay Gundogan, the captain of Manchester City, has ended a seven-year relationship with the Premier League team and will join Barcelona when his current deal with the club expires. After helping the Citizens win the treble last season, Gundogan will sign a two-year contract with Xavi’s team, with an option for a third year.

With Sergio Busquets leaving the team this summer, Gundogan arrival to Barcelona will provide Xavi more alternatives in the midfield. The seasoned player has opted to follow Lionel Messi in moving to MLS side Inter Miami.

Barcelona confirmed the transfer in a statement via the club’s official website: “FC Barcelona and Ilkay Gündoğan have reached an agreement for the German international to sign for the Catalans now that his contract with Manchester City has ended. He will join for two seasons, through to 30 June 2025, with the option to stay for one more year. His buyout clause has been set at 400 million euros.”

Gundogan will soon have his official presentation as a member of Barcelona, and he will be eager to add to his trophy haul while residing at Camp Nou.
