Amidst rumours of retirement, Croatian midfield maestro Luka Modric says he’s feeling good physically, and can still play elite football.

Modric has been linked away from Real Madrid ahead of the transfer window, and with Toni Kroos’ imminent retirement, many believe the Los Blancos legend will also be retiring from football.

However, the 38-year-old says above his age, he can still compete at the top level.

“Don’t look at the age, I feel great,” Modric told Cope

“I can’t say when, I have to see how I feel, but right now, I feel so good physically that I’m sure I can still play elite football.”

He also continued by debunking the rumours linking him to Carlo Ancelotti’s technical crew, “I don’t know where it comes from, but no.

“No assistant, no 2nd coach. I’m still a player, that’s what I want to do! I want to play. The decision on my future is made but I can’t tell you yet.

“I have always said I want to retire at Real Madrid, this is what I really want.

“This would be a dream, this is my home, the club of my life. I want a farewell like Toni Kroos,” he said.

Back in June 2023, Six Sports reported Modric’s one-year contract extension with Madrid. With the contract set to expire on June 30, 2024, sources claim Ancelotti is looking to retain the services of the midfielder, especially in the absence of Kroos.

Come Saturday, June 1, Modric and Real Madrid will take on Borrusia Dortmund at the Wembley Stadium, as they eye the perfect end to their season, having already won the Spanish topflight league.
