Following Inter Milan’s 2-1 win over Genoa to go 15 points clear on the Seria A summit on Monday, Simone Inzaghi has charged his side to remain strong and focused, as the fixtures keep tickling in.

Kristjan Asllani and Alexis Sánchez both scored for Inter in the first half on Monday, as they held firm against a Genoa side that threatened a comeback after Johan Vásquez’s 54th-minute volley.

“It’s difficult to keep going as we are when having so many fixtures to fulfil: they all have their difficulties, we need to stay strong and stay focused,” Inzaghi reacted post-match.

The 47-year-old continued, “We still have two and a half busy months ahead. I commended Asllani on how he has worked: from the outside, you can’t always tell, but Kristjan also worked hard last year.

“He tries to learn in every training session and this week he played three great games, as did the whole team. Everyone is doing very well, Sanchez and Arnautovic for example were vital in this run at the beginning of 2024, but I didn’t need the goals to know that, the two of them are important, as are Lautaro and Thuram, who are doing very special things.

“Titles count more than records, in addition to feeling good: my greatest satisfaction is seeing the team play like this with every player contributing, then the rest follows.”

The victory over Genoa at the San Siro yesterday was the Nerazzurri’s ninth consecutive league win and Simone Inzaghi’s 179th win in his first 300 games as a manager in the Italian league.

The feat makes Inzaghi the most successful Seria A coach after 300 games, outdoing Carlo Ancelloti and Massimiliano Allegri who amassed 172 and 171 victories respectively before reaching the 300 games mark.
