Away from home, Inter Milan defeated Hellas Verona 5-0, to leapfrog Napoli and go top of the Seria A standings.
Marcus Thuram got a brace as Joaquin Correa, Stefan de Vrij and Yann Aurel Bisseck net one each, all in the first half to secure the victory.
The hosts were the first to give the game a spark as Casper Tengstedt rattled the crossbar shortly after Flavius Daniliuc’s header had tested Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
However, it was Inter that opened the scoring as Correa, who is having his first start in over a year, gave his side the lead. He chipped his finish past Lorenzo Montipo after smart link up play with Marcus Thuram.
Having provided the assist for the opener, Thuram then bagged two almost identical goals in three minutes. He outplayed Verona’s offside trap and rounded the keeper, before stroking the ball into an empty net on both occasions.
Stefan de Vrij, who was introduced into the game after Francesco Acerbi was forced off with an injury early in the first half, helped himself to a goal. The Dutchman blasted his shot from the edge of the box into the corner.
With five minutes left of the first half, the visitors made it 5-0, as Yann Aurel Bisseck poked home from eight yards despite falling to the ground while taking his shot.
The win pushed Simone Inzaghi’s side to the top of the Seria A standings.
