Inter widens Seria A lead with 2-1 victory over Genoa 

Inter Milan took a significant stride towards clinching the Serie A title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Genoa at the San Siro on Monday, going clear of second-placed Juventus with 15 points.

With the Bianconeri suffering a 2-1 defeat to Napoli on Sunday, Inter had the opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of the table to 15 points, and the Nerazzurri did just that by grabbing two first-half goals to weather past Genoa’s scare.

Simeone Inzaghi’s men initially struggled to assert their dominance, but soon found their rhythm, and broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Kristjan Asllani capitalized on a clever pass from the Lautaro Martínez—the league’s top scorer—to fire home.

Eight minutes later, a penalty was awarded to Inter after Nicolò Barella was fouled in the box, allowing Alexis Sánchez to double their lead from the spot.

Although Inter seemed in control, Genoa pulled one back early in the second half through Johan Vásquez’s volley, keeping the game tense.

Despite Genoa’s persistent attacking threats, Inter held firm defensively, ensuring they secured the crucial victory and moved an inch closer to winning the 2022/24 Seria A title with eleven games to go.
