Real Betis came from behind to defeat Real Madrid as Isco Alcarcon scored the winner against his former club.
Madrid went ahead early into the game, courtesy of Brahim Diaz’s close range effort. The Moroccan was picked out by Ferland Mendy, before slotting into an empty net.
The visitors had a couple of chances to double their lead but failed to find the finishing touch.
However, they were punished by the hosts asJohnny Cardoso equalised with a 34th-minute header from Isco’s corner.
Isco, who spent nine years at the Spanish capital, then netted a 54th-minute penalty. The Spaniard made no mistake from the spot after Antonio Rudiger had fouled Jesus Rodriguez in the box.
Betis almost got a third when Cucho Hernandez shot wide after being picked out by Antony.
Real Madrid went on to lose the crucial three points, after being punished by ex-player, Isco an ex-boss, Manuel Pellegrini.
Meanwhile, Real Betis move up to sixth in the La Liga table, following their deserved home win over the reigning champions.
Madrid however remain behind Barcelona on goal difference, with the Catalans having a game on hand.
