Karl Robinson, Sam Allardyce’s assistant has stated that trying to keep Leeds United in the Premier League is an impossible task. On May 3, Allardyce and Robinson were named Leeds United’s managers. At the time, the team was 17th in the league standings and striving to avoid relegation.

After that, they only managed to pick up one point in their final four games under Allardyce, falling to 19th place. According to Robinson, they took on the challenge of performing a miracle despite knowing that keeping Leeds United in the top tier was practically “an impossible job.”

Robinson said, “It was almost an impossible job, but we all have that ego going in and plotting a miracle. That’s not naivety or stupidity, we thought we could do it even though we knew it’d be so difficult.”

When asked how he decided to join Allardyce at Elland Road, he added: “I was playing golf and I got a phone call from the gaffer [Allardyce] to say what are you doing? I said I was playing golf. He said can you get yourself up to Leeds tonight. He said he was going in for the last four games of the season.”

“I actually think I said ‘are you mad?’ He said get yourself up here tonight and we’ll have a conversation. I got in my car and drove to Yorkshire.”

After the 2022–23 season concluded with Leeds United being demoted to the Championship, Sam Allardyce decided to leave the organization. They lost to Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in their final match of the year. Leeds are presently looking for a new manager who can take them from the English Championship to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign.
