Borussia Dortmund are prepared to continue talks with Manchester United about Jadon Sancho’s permanent move, as they establish an initial transfer fee. He rejoined the Bundesliga club on a short-term loan in January after being frozen out by Erik ten Hag at United.
Sancho had a good start back in Germany, with a goal and two assists, and Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg reports that he wants to continue at Dortmund. As a result, the two teams will hold more talks in the “next few weeks” to see whether a settlement can be reached.
As Plettenburg points out, the primary challenge to any permanent move will be the salary, with Sancho apparently earning around £300,000 ($381,000) each week at United. Dortmund do, however, know how much they are willing to pay for Sancho if a salary agreement is achieved. According to the report, the German club would pay United up to €35 million (£30 million/$38 million) for Sancho, which is significantly less than the £73 million ($93 million) the Red Devils spent in 2021.
In addition to financial concerns, the study cites additional issues that may prevent Sancho from making a permanent move. Ten Hag, an outspoken critic of the Englishman, may be ousted as manager, and it is uncertain what stance incoming part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will take on the issue.
Anyways, Sancho will continue to put in the effort at Dortmund, either to persuade them to pay more or to put himself on the market for other prospective suitors. The 23-year-old is thought to have a large number of admirers following in Saudi Arabia, which is gearing up for another summer of lavish spending after a quiet January.
