Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s decision to prohibit Manchester United’s non-playing staff from working from home was motivated by emsil traffic. He and INEOS have cracked the whip at Old Trafford, ordering all employees to come to the workplace, putting a stop to the work-from-home ethos that has existed since the Covid-19 outbreak.
Ratcliffe announced the policy’s end during an all-staff meeting last week. His argument was that when one of his other companies experimented with work-from-home Fridays, email traffic decreased by 20%. However, many have lambasted the decision as short-sighted, claiming that there is not enough room to accommodate all employees in the Manchester and London locations.
According to reports, the new United part-owner has informed employees that if they are unhappy with the decision, they should look for work elsewhere. At the meeting, he reportedly added, “If you don’t like it, please seek alternative employment.”
Ratcliffe will have to return his focus to resolving United’s on-field issues as the season comes to a close. INEOS is thought to be planning to fire coach Erik ten Hag at the end of the season, with Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel and England manager Gareth Southgate among the candidates to replace him.
