Real Madrid’s campaign hits a snag as striker Joselu faces a spell on the sidelines due to an ankle problem.

The 33-year-old who has netted 14 goals this season has been diagnosed with a bone oedema in his right ankle, the club confirmed in a statement on Friday.

“Following tests carried out on Joselu by the Real Madrid Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with a bone oedema in his right ankle. His progress will be monitored,” Real Madrid reported in their official statement.

Although the Spanish giants didn’t specify the recovery timeline, multiple reports suggest Joselu could be out for around three weeks, missing crucial fixtures including the La Liga clash against Sevilla on Sunday and the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie with RB Leipzig on March 6.

Currently clear on the La Liga table with six points, Joselu’s absence presents a challenge for Madrid as they strive to maintain their momentum in both domestic and European competitions.

The Espanyol loanee, however, is expected to be 100% fit after the international break.
