Harry Kane scored four goals as Bayern Munich scored nine goals to demolish Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League opener.

Bayern Munich won 9-2, courtesy of Kane’s four goals, including three penalties, Michael Olise’s brace, and a goal apiece from Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane, and Leon Goretzka.

Kane became England’s top scorer in Champions League history with 33 goals. He surpassed England legend, Wayne Rooney, who scored 30 goals in the competition during his playing time.

The quadruple also marked his 53rd goals for the German giant in just 50 games since joining from Tottenham.

France winger Michael Olise, also scored twice on his Champions League debut, having joined Crystal Palace in the summer.

Bayern broke the deadlock from Kane’s spotkick after Aleksandar Pavlovic was fouled.

Raphael Guerreiro made it 2-0 after he scored a fantastic half-volley before Olise headed in Joshua Kimmich’s cross to make it three in the first half. Kimmich then went further to create another assist for Leon Goretzka at the cusp of the second half.

Bayern brought on Sven Ulrich for the injured Manuel Neuer at half-time. However,  he conceded twice in five minutes before touching the ball as Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara made it 3-2.

Bayern took control again with Kane scoring a rebound after Kimmich’s shot was saved. Olise also got his second of the night, slotting into an empty net.

The England captain then scored his second spot-kick after a dubious handball decision from the video assistant referee. He netted his fourth goal, a hat-trick of penalties, after Alphonso Davies was fouled, to make it 7-2.

Leroy Sane came off the bench to smash in from 20 yards as Bayern Munich continued to enjoy their dominance. Leon Goretzka also got his name added to the scoresheet as a substitute, heading in the ninth.

Bayern Munich rained goals on Dinamo Zagreb as Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Kane had goals disallowed for offside.

Kane has scored nine goals in five games for Vincent Kompany’s Bayern this season, also hitting a hat-trick in Saturday’s 6-1 win at Holstein Kiel.
