Kawhi Leonard is eyeing a January 4 return to the court, specifically targeting the Los Angeles Clippers’ home game against the Atlanta Hawks. This news comes after Leonard hinted at his return in a New Balance commercial, where he stated, “There’s been good days, there’s been bad days, but I keep coming back. It’s the nature of the game”.

Leonard has been sidelined due to inflammation in his right knee, which also caused him to withdraw from the Team USA roster for the Paris Olympics. Despite his absence, the Clippers have managed to stay afloat with a 17-13 record, thanks in part to James Harden and Norman Powell’s impressive performances.

The team is taking a cautious approach, ensuring Leonard’s readiness before his debut. He participated in a 5-on-5 scrimmage on Thursday and will practice with the San Diego Clippers in the G League while the NBA squad is on the road.

When healthy, Leonard is a game-changer, averaging 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last season. His return could elevate the Clippers to a top-four seed in the West. However, his injury history is a concern, having missed 210 games since joining the Clippers in 2019.
