Arda Güler’s 29th-minute strike was the difference, as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 to open up a 14-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.
Carlo Ancelotti made significant changes to the team following their El Clásico victory on Sunday, which allowed Sociedad to dominate early on at the Reale Arena.
However, Madrid managed to take the lead against the run of play with a well-taken goal by Güler who converted a precise cross from Nacho Fernández in the 29th minute.
Sociedad thought they had equalised after the break, but VAR ruled out the goal due to a foul in the build-up.
Despite Sociedad’s relentless pressure in the second half, Madrid held on for the win to edge closer to their 36th league title.
