Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, with Diogo Jota scoring an early team goal that kept Arne Slot’s side at the top of the Premier League table. Jota’s strike, marking his 100th for the club, came in the 9th minute following a pullback from Cody Gakpo.
Despite dominating much of the game, Liverpool missed key chances. Jota and Mo Salah were unable to capitalize, leading to a nervy finish after goalkeeper Alisson Becker was forced off with an injury late in the match.
Debutant Viteslav Jaros replaced Alisson, and though Palace applied pressure, they failed to find an equalizer. Controversy arose when Virgil van Dijk appeared to pull down Palace captain Marc Guehi in the box, but no penalty was awarded.
The win extends Liverpool’s lead at the top by four points going into the weekend’s remaining fixtures. Meanwhile, Palace remain winless after seven games and stay in the relegation zone.
Liverpool will next face Chelsea at Anfield after the international break, while Crystal Palace visit Nottingham Forest. Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have won nine of their first ten games. This latest result seeing that he becomes the first in the club’s history to win his first four away league matches and his opening five across all competitions.
While the team showed moments of dominance, they also displayed resilience in closing out the game despite opposition. However, the real test will come after the break, with tough matches against Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and Arsenal in quick succession.
