Mohamed Salah scored a second-half equaliser as both Arsenal and Liverpool shared spoils at the Emirate on Sunday evening.
The hosts went ahead early when the returning Bukayo Saka finished emphatically past Caoimhin Kelleher but was pegged back by Virgil van Dijk’s header from a set piece.
Arsenal enjoyed a lengthy period of dominance. In the 43rd minute, Merino gave them the lead, and the Gunners went into the break with a goal lead.
Early in the second half, Arsenal faced a setback as Gabriel had to leave the pitch due to injury. With this shift, Liverpool began to take control, and their pressure paid off.
Alexander-Arnold sent a precise pass to Darwin Nunez, who passed to Mohamed Salah, allowing him to score the equalizer. The late goal kept the tension high in north London. Both teams fought hard, but in the end, they had to settle for a point each.
Liverpool strived but failed to raise their intensity, and Arsenal looked comfortable in defence, but the Reds eventually found an 81st-minute equaliser through Salah.
Arsenal fans may be justified in feeling aggrieved, as they had a goal by Jesus disallowed, seemingly for a foul in the build-up. Although it wasn’t totally clear, they were denied the chance to take a last-minute corner.
Bukayo Saka’s said post match:
“We’re a bit disappointed. Credit to Liverpool, they’re a good team, but we feel like we didn’t show our best selves for the full 90 minutes. First half we showed our qualities and dominated. We gave them nothing in open play.”
‘In the second half we sat back a bit and we weren’t at our best. They won more duels than us, they kept possession and then naturally the momentum was with them so we had to defend more.”
“I hate missing games and it was really frustrating to be on the sidelines. I had this game in my mind and was going to do everything to be available.”
