In an effort to help Manchester United with its injury woes, Lisandro Martinez is returning home from Argentina. The centre back missed the previous six weeks due to a knee injury, but Lionel Scaloni summoned him up to the team for this month’s matches against El Salvador and Costa Rica.

The 26-year-old, who has practiced with the Argentina team this week, is scheduled to return to England on Saturday in order to thoroughly prepare for United’s match against Brentford on March 30. The influential defender was one of the Red Devils’ best players last season but a number of injures have limited his game time over the past year.

So, if Martinez can get back into the game soon, Erik ten Hag’s team’s chances of finishing in the top four and winning the FA Cup may improve. The report adds Martinez, who joined from Ajax in 2022 for an initial £47 million ($59.8m), will intensify training at United’s Carrington base over the coming week. Martinez was first given a lift in his recuperation attempts by the Red Devils connecting him with the World Cup victors.

Argentina’s friendlies against Costa Rica and El Salvador are scheduled for next week, but Argentine defender Martinez will be absent. At the end of the month, United plays Brentford, and on April 4 they go on an away trip to Chelsea.
