Chelsea again recorded a yo-yo performance against another London clubside Brentford at the Stamford Bridge. The 2-0 victory was Brentford’s third consecutive win at Stamford bridge as Bryan Mbeumo recorded back to back goals at the same stadium.
Meanwhile, Pochettino’s right hand man, Perez was also shown a straight red card towards the end of the game.
Despite the recent reignition of the Mauricio Pochettino-led side, many would have overruled that the Blues would encounter a humiliating result in the presence of their fans. Only to be trashed by Brentford who recorded their first two consecutive EPL win of the season.
Into the game, Pochettino made used of a 4-2-3-1 formation using a double pivot #6 of Moises Caicedo and Captain Conor Gallagher then sending four players upfront to attack Brentford’s defence.
Meanwhile, it was as if the game was on Chelsea’s side as Nicolas Jackson missed a seventh minute attempt from a Marc Cucurella’s cross. Chelsea further had another attempt that was blocked from Gallagher five minutes later. However, Chelsea were expressive in the first half as the game ended in a barren draw.
But the second half saw a rejuvenated Brentford who gave the Blues a run for their money. After 13 minutes of action, Ethan Pinnock went past two Chelsea defenders to head into the net Bryan Mbeumo’s left flanked cross.
Mbeumo then doubled the league at the second half additional time benefiting from Chelsea’s defensive gaffe.
