The Super Eagles of Nigeria booked their place in the quarter-final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations, courtesy of Ademola Lookman’s brace against Cameroon at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday night.

Coming from that drab 1-0 win over Guinea Bissau in their last group game, the West African giant wasted no time in announcing their intent in today’s match, as Semi Ajayi converted home from close range inside the opening nine minutes, only for VAR review to chop off the goal for an offside in the buildup.

Be that as it may, Nigeria found the back of the net again 26 minutes later, and this time, it stood. 2023 CAF Player of Year, Victor Osimhen, wrestled the ball off Oumar Gonzalez to set up Ademola Lookman whose strike was bungled into the net by Fabrice Ondoa.

Jose Peseiro’s men came into the second half unrelentless, as they kept on troubling Rigobert Song’s side who registered zero shots on target.

With few minutes left into the end of the encounter, Lookman struck again, after benefiting from a nice delivery from Calvin Bassey to fire in a close-range volley and seal the game’s result.

The win implies Nigeria remain unbeaten against Cameroon in five successive competitive matches, and are now set to face Angola in the quarter-finals on February 2nd, after the Palancas Negras defeated Namibia 3-0 to secure their spot earlier in the day.
