Real Madrid has dented their hope on retaining the title, as they fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Vinicius Jr’s penalty miss also highlighted the loss as Madrid failed to close the gap on league leaders, Barcelona.
The game started brightly for Los Blancos as Kylian Mbappe was pulled down by Cesar Tarrega inside the area. However, Vinicius stepped up but missed the spotkick, as his effort was poor and easily saved by Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Madrid was made to pay for the miss, as the visitors took a shocking lead, two minutes after. Mouctar Diakhaby put Valencia ahead, as he headed home Diego Lopez’s excellent corner past Fran Gonzalez.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side got back into the game, five minutes into the second half, with Vinicius redeeming his penalty miss. The Brazilian forward stabbed home from Luka Modric’s corner-kick to level the scoreline.
Madrid dominated afterwards, as they searched for the winner, but they were denied by Valencia defending and Mamardashvili’s crucial save.
However, Los Blancos eventually fell to a defeat in front of the home fans, as Los Che stole a late winner. Valencia striker, Hugo Duro headed home in the 95th minute to secure their first Bernabeu victory since 2008.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid remains three points behind Barcelona and could slump to six points, should the Catalans defeat Real Betis.
