Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu, replicating the first meeting at Wanda Metropolitano.
Julian Alvarez and Kylian Mbappe both sçored for their sides to ensure the sharing of points.
The game started with both sides playing safe as there was no clear cut chance until the 35th minute.
The first chance of the match fell to Atletico which came from the penalty spot. Aurelien Tchouameni was adjudged to have fouled Samuel Lino after standing on his foot.
Meanwhile, the foul was not given on-field, but after a VAR review, referee Cesar Soto Grado pointed to the penalty spot. Alvarez then stepped up to give to give Diego Simeone’s side the lead.
Real Madrid tried to fight back but could not get an equaliser before the half time interval.
However, they did managed to hit back five minutes into the second half, courtesy of Mbappe’s rebound. The Frenchman scored his 16th La Liga goal of the season to level the game.
Following a brilliant play from Rodrygo Goes on the right, as he got to the by-line before cutting the ball back to Jude Bellingham, whose effort was blocked by Jose Maria Gimenez. The ball then fell to Mbappe and the ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward made no mistake.
Los Blancos continued to dominate the second half, and had a couple of half chances but could notch the winning goal.
Atletico’s goalkeeper, Jan Oblak ensured the game remained tied as he denied Vinicius Junior’s strike from a tight angle. The Slovakian also palmed away a dangerous in-swinging Luka Modric free-kick in the final minutes.
The result means that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid remain separated by a single point.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are opened to reduce the gap to two points should they win Sevilla on Sunday.
