Manchester United officials are reportedly seriously monitoring the game time of Kobbie Mainoo over the coming weeks. The 19-year-old has enjoyed a fine breakthrough 12 months in the United first-team, having clocked up to 50 senior appearances for both club and country.

Mainoo made an outstanding impression for United during the second half of last season, which earned him a space in England’s team during Euro 2024.

However, after a great season, United is keeping a close tab on the number of games the young Mainoo will be playing this season to avoid any future injuries.  Also considering the amount of matches he has had in such a short space of time.

It’s claimed he is likely to be rested over the next two weeks. To start this race of giving Mainoo some much-needed time off, he didn’t feature for United in the Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley on Tuesday. He was named among the substitutes but remained on the bench while Erik ten Hag’s booked their place in the fourth round with a convincing 7-0 victory.

Contract advancement talk with Mainoo

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reports United are planning for contract talks with Mainoo. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “One of the players for present and future of Manchester United is for sure Kobbie Mainoo. I updated you before the start of the summer transfer window, telling you how Manchester United were preparing their proposal for Kobbie Mainoo.

“Now, we are in September. We are entering into a moment when Manchester United are prepared to advance in talks with Kobbie Mainoo. At the moment it is an internal process. it’s Manchester United preparing their proposal. The salary, the bonuses, the add-ons, they want to propose something important and special to Kobbie Mainoo.”

“It’s not an urgent situation but they just want to give this fantastic talent an important contract. This is to make him feel in the best conditions possible at Manchester United. The feeling is mutual, the club is very happy with Kobbie and Kobbie is very happy at Manchester United.”

Since entering the first squad, Mainoo has grown to be one of United’s most vital players. It is anticipated that he will start in the starting lineup for Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace. Following this, Ten Hag’s team will play Tottenham at Old Trafford before hosting Twente in their Europa League opener.
