According to Pep Guardiola, John Stones, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva will go for Manchester City’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig. With Silva leaving the game against Red Star last month due to injury, Rodri serving a three-match suspension for his red card at Nottingham Forest, and Stones recovering from a thigh ailment. City have been without this crucial trio recently.
Ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Leipzig, Guardiola stated that Rodri will start against the German side and with optimism of Stones and Silva returning to action. The City manager told reporters:
“They feel better, Bernardo better than John. Both travel and we are going to decide tomorrow. I’m really happy that they’re back. John couldn’t play one minute this season and Bernardo had a pre-season with the birth of his beautiful daughter and also was injured a little bit, with disruptions, which made it a little bit longer. But they’re back which is good news for us.”
He added: “Always with negative things you have to take the positives. Tomorrow Rodri is going to play the game and then I give him a rest, he will go to Madrid for four or five days before the national team in the international break.”
Last Sunday, City lost 2-1 to Wolves, their first defeat of the new Premier League season. A few days earlier, they had lost 1-0 to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup. It would be a tremendous lift for them if they could get some important players back before the international break, which starts after this weekend’s games.
Following their match against Leipzig, City will travel to the Emirates to play Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who sit just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s team in the standings.
