With Lisandro Martinez’s extended period of absence announced on the club’s official website, Manchester United is starting to run out of defenders. He is currently placed on the sidelines alongside Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who are all currently injured.
The World Cup champion Argentina international worsened a preexisting foot issue on September 3 against Arsenal. A statement on the club’s official website reads:
“Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for an extended period due to an aggravation of the foot injury he suffered in April. It has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation. Assessment is ongoing to decide next steps. Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro our best wishes and looks forward to him coming back as soon as possible.”
The Red Devils have also revealed that another defender – summer signing Sergio Reguilon – will be unavailable for Saturday’s home date with Crystal Palace. The player who just joined United on loan from Tottenham, has a “minor injury”.
United has had a shaky start to the 2023–24 season, with problems both on and off the field doing them little favors. However, they have beaten Burnley and Palace in consecutive Premier League and Carabao Cup games, and they will be hoping that momentum is starting to build behind them.
