Manchester United has made Facundo Pellistri an offer in exchange for Morten Hjulmand, a midfielder for Sporting Lisbon. According to reports, Sporting has rejected the offer for Hjulmand, with Pellistri being considered as a possible makeweight.
The 24-year-old Danish international’s contract contains a £69 million release clause and Sporting has shown a desire to for the clause to be triggered. Hjulmand who signed with Sporting this summer after leaving Serie A club Lecce, is rumored to view Christian Eriksen as a “mentor.”
The midfield player’s contract would expire in 2028, thus the Portuguese team is not under any obligation to sell. In contrast, Pellistri has made 14 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s team so far this season and has been connected to PSV, a major Dutch team.
Hjulmand, who cost Sporting around £15 million ($19 million), has participated in every game this season but one. During his time at Lecce, he was connected to Southampton; however, he ultimately decided to relocate to Portugal.
Whether United will table a satisfying offer as regards Hjulmund’s release clause is currently unknown. Given the accompanying costs, it is more likely that a £69 million deal will take place in the summer. Hjulmund will probably return to action on Saturday when Sporting takes on Chaves in the Primeira Liga.
