Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca expressed his eagerness for the January transfer window to close amid concerns about several players. Chelsea may see potential exits as the window approaches its end on Monday.
Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have had limited playing time under Maresca this season. Disasi has been linked to Aston Villa or Tottenham, while Felix and Chilwell are rumored to move to AC Milan and Crystal Palace, respectively.
Maresca stated he would feel pleased when the transfer window closes, shortly after Chelsea’s Monday night match against West Ham. The game starts at 8pm (GMT), and the transfer window shuts at 11pm. He added he would feel “relieved” arriving at work at Cobham on Tuesday after the window closes.
In response to media questions, Maresca said: “For sure you have a feeling of relief. The players you are going to see, they are going to be here until the end, so there is not any noise about some of the players that are there.”
He went on to say, “The word is relief. From now on until the end, we go on with these players and no more.”
He compared his experiences with transfer windows, noting similar situations from his time at Leicester in the Championship. Chelsea aims to reduce player numbers after a busy summer transfer window filled with new signings.
While departures could benefit the team, the ongoing “noise” surrounding the squad has been unsettling as they strive for Champions League spots in the Premier League.
