Leicester Winger Kasey McAteer has been added to Heimir Halgrímsson’s Republic of Ireland roster. He will start for their Nations League matchups against England and Greece, his eligibility being cleared by FIFA.

The 22-year-old is one of the uncapped players in Halgrímsson’s starting lineup. He has appeared in both of Leicester’s Premier League games thus far this season. Another is Max O’Leary, the goalkeeper for Bristol City, who was called up in 2022.

As anticipated, Séamus Coleman has been declared healthy and is available for the forthcoming matches. Evan Ferguson, who recently made his Brighton comeback after a five-month sabbatical, is also included in Ireland’s forward lineup.

In addition to Mikey Johnston, who has lately missed action for Celtic due to a brain injury, Gavin Bazunu and Josh Cullen are also absent due to injuries. Halgrimsson’s 23-man roster does not feature any of Shane Duffy, Festy Ebosele, Jamie McGrath, Finn Azaz, Tom Cannon, or Michael Obafemi.

Efforts were first made under Stephen Kenny’s reign to secure the eligibility of McAteer. He is the English-born winger who has never represented Ireland at underage level. Ireland will host England on Saturday in their Nations League opener before travelling to Greece three days later.
