Benjamin Mendy launched legal proceedings against his former employer Manchester City at the end of last year. He claimed there were “unauthorised deductions from his wages” after he was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021.

Hearing will take place at the Manchester Employment Tribunal over two days, starting on October 14. A jury at Chester Crown Court acquitted Mendy of all allegations in July 2023 following a retrial on rape and attempted rape.

The retrial was necessary because the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the two accusations against the football player, who had previously been found not guilty of rape and sexual assault against other women.

Right up to the conclusion of his contract, which expired in June 2023, Mendy has been pursuing the return of compensation he feels he is entitled to. When Man City paid Monaco £52 million for the former France international in 2017, he became the most expensive defender in the Premier League.
