Jakub Mensik extended his ATP Masters 1000 win streak to nine matches on Tuesday with a clinical display at the Mutua Madrid Open.

The 19-year-old Czech, who claimed his maiden ATP Tour title in Miami last month, moved past Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals. Mensik saved four break points in a gutsy service hold for 4-2 in the second set before motoring to a 56-minute victory.

Into his third Masters 1000 quarter-final, and first on clay, Mensik is the fifth teenager to reach this stage in Madrid tournament history.

After debuting at the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF last year, Mensik has continued his ascent in emphatic fashion. The 19-year-old, who boasts a 6-1 record vs. Top 10 players in 2025, is up to seventh in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.

In the Madrid quarter-finals, Mensik awaits the winner of Tuesday afternoon’s clash between top seed and two-time champion Alexander Zverev and Francisco Cerundolo.

Sixth seed Alex de Minaur earlier displayed his craft and guile to move past Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6(3) and reach the fourth round. De Minaur stood firm in the face of 23 winners from Shapovalov and clinically mixed in variation to prevail, tying Carlos Alcaraz with a Tour-leading 24th win of the season.

“He’s got tremendous firepower from every part of the court, and I had to do my best to neutralise it, and not let him dictate as much as he could,” said De Minaur, who improved to 5-0 in his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Shapovalov. “All in all, I’m super happy with the way I competed today.”

The No. 7 in the PIF ATP Rankings, De Minaur is now into his fifth consecutive Masters 1000 round of 16, where he awaits the winner of Tuesday’s clash between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Lorenzo Musetti. The Australian has also shown impressive clay-court acumen this year, with runs to the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo and quarter-finals in Barcelona.
