Atlético Madrid forward Alvaro Morata recently disclosed that AC Milan, alongside top Italian clubs reached out to him during the last summer transfer window regarding a potential move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spanish striker revealed the extent of his options during the window, which included links to Milan, Inter, and AS Roma
Eventually, Morata opted to renew his contract with Atletico Madrid, citing financial considerations.
“I was in a particular situation, with my contract with Atletico Madrid expiring. I renewed it by varying my economic conditions a lot due to questions of financial fair play and the club’s wage bill, and also changing the conditions for a possible sale,” Morata explained.
The 31-year-old added, “They came forward from Milan, and then the coaches called me because I have good relations with everyone. [Max] Allegri coached me.
“The same goes for [Jose] Mourinho, who also gave me my debut for Real Madrid. I liked the idea of going to Roma, to play with Paulo [Dybala] and in a club and a city full of passion where you experience football as in South America.
“With [Simone] Inzaghi we have known each other for years, we met on holiday: he is an incredible coach and a spectacular person with whom it is a pleasure to spend time, to be together, to talk. He’s someone who transmits a lot of positive energy.”
Álvaro Morata has registered 14 goals and 2 assists across 26 league appearances for Atlético this season.
