Fenerbahce crashed out of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League campaign, after losing 3-2 to Rangers on penalties.
Jose Mourinho’s side won 2-0 to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit, however, Jack Butland’s penalty shootout heroics earned Rangers a place in the Europa League quarter-finals.
The Scottish side goalkeeper saved Dusan Tadic and Fred’s spotkick before Mert Hakan Yandas skied his effort over the bar.
Meanwhile, James Tavernier, Vaclav Cerny and Tom Lawrence converted for the Barry Ferguson’s side to seal the qualification.
Earlier in the game, Mourinho’s Fenerbahce put up a remarkable show in Glasgow. Goals from Poland midfielder Sebastian Szymanski either side of half-time brought the visitors level on aggregate.
Fenerbahce pushed for the winner in regular time but were unable as Tadic curled a shot just wide. Youssef En-Nesyri was also denied by a last-ditch tackle by James Tavernier in the dying minute of normal time.
Rangers also showed their attacking threat, with Cerny taking defenders on at will and forcing several saves from goalkeeper Irfan Can Egribayat.
However, neither side could pull the winner in 90 minutes, as they went on to play extra time.
Rangers came close to winning the contest in extra time, but Cerny and Tavernier could not find the clutch.
The tie was then decided by penalty shootout, and the Scottish giants won through Butland’s heroics.
Rangers will therefore be clashing with Athletic Bilbao in the last eight after the Spanish outfit overcame Roma.
