Newcastle United defeated Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park, recording a 4-3 comeback win. The visitors, Forest took an early lead through Callum Hudson-Odoi’s pocketed shot in the sixth minute. However, Newcastle responded quickly, scoring four goals within 11 minutes.

The Magpies began the comeback with Lewis Miley’s debut goal for the club before Jacob Murphy followed with his sixth goal this season. Alexander Isak then added two more goals, marking his 49th and 50th Premier League goals respectively for Newcastle. Despite second-half goals from Nicola Milenković and Ryan Yates, Newcastle won 4-3.

Newcastle vs Nottinham; Match report

Miley was one of three changes from the last match. Tino Livramento and Nick Pope also started. Pope’s return was notable as it was his first league start since December. Forest struck first when Hudson-Odoi scored from 20 yards after Newcastle lost possession from a throw-in.

Newcastle’s response included a deflected shot from Miley and a close attempt by Gordon. In the 23rd minute, they equalized. Lewis Hall’s free-kick was kept alive by Bruno Guimarães and Joe Willock. Finally, Miley scored with a left-footed strike. Instead of celebrating his first Premier League goal in over a year, the 18-year-old quickly ran back to the centre circle. This showed both his and the team’s determination to continue the match.

Two minutes later, Newcastle took the lead. Hudson-Odoi got a shot off, but Pope made the save. He quickly launched an attack, with the ball moving to Anthony Gordon, then to Hall through an Isak backheel. Hall’s cross was deflected to Jacob Murphy, who skillfully redirected it into the net.

Hall played a key role again with another cross that was blocked by Ola Aina’s arm. After a VAR review, referee Jarred Gillett awarded a penalty. Isak successfully converted the penalty despite Matz Sels almost stopping it in the 33rd minute. This goal meant Isak had scored in every game he played against Forest. He celebrated again a minute later when Willock set him up for his 50th top-flight goal.

Murphy nearly scored again before halftime, but Sels denied him after a nice team move. At the start of the second half, Fabian Schär hit the post from a Hall corner. Forest kept pressing. Anthony Elanga missed a close chance but then Milenković scored in the 63rd minute with a clever finish to narrow the gap.

Miley blocked a goal-bound shot from former United player Elliot Anderson. Then, Murillo headed wide from a Forest corner, and Milenković missed another header late in the game.

As stoppage time neared, Pope saved a cross-shot from Morgan Gibbs-White by pushing it over the bar. From the ensuing corner, Ryan Yates scored for Forest. Nonetheless, Newcastle managed to secure the win, thanks to their four goals in the first half.
